Frequently Asked Questions - Technical Support
How do I get a word count for my document?
In Microsoft Word, to turn on the word count feature in the status bar: Right click the status bar and then click to select the word count check box.
Another way to do this, if the word count feature is turned off in your status bar, is: Click on the review tab, then click on the word count icon in the proofing group.
Alternatively, if it's too much of a headache to navigate word, or if your document is in another format (such as .pdf), we are more than happy to run your file (whatever format it may be in) into our software to generate a word count for you.
What type of files do you accept?
We accept most PC- compatible and MAC- compatible word-processing files, such as Microsoft word, Adobe Acrobat, Final Draft, Pages, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft power point, word pad, scrivener, and all Adobe suite files, among others. If you have Linux/ Unix files, they can be saved in a PC/ MAC- compatible format (such as .doc, .dox, .txt, .rtf, etc).
If you're still not sure about the file format, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will make it work.
Which file formats are best?
Microsoft Word is the common industry standard file format, because it allows you to track the changes we have made to your document in the clearest form. We can still highlight changes and add comments to other file types such as PDFs, but if it's an option Microsoft word works best.
Can you edit PDF files?
Yes, we can certainly work with PDF files. The formatting of PDF files is quite different to word-processing software such as Microsoft word, so the changes we make to your document will be visualized in a different manner, but one that still achieves the same desired effect. Using the highlight and comments tools in Adobe Acrobat we will show the changes that were made to your document, so that you can track them in a similar way to Microsoft Word.
I sent you my work in a Microsoft Word file. I received it back, but i can't see any of the changes.
No problem. The changes to you documents may not be visible if the Show Markup feature is turned off, or if Microsoft Word is not in the right View mode to see the changes.
It's easy to fix, First, click the Review tab, then click on the Show Markup menu, and select the All Markup option. If you still can't see the changes, then you can also try changing your View mode by clicking the View tab, then clicking the print layout view button.
If it still doesn't work, then send us an email and we will make sure all is resolved.
The MS Word file I received has the changes your editor made in another color. How do I include them?
For Microsoft Word files, we use the track changes and the comments tools, to highlight all the changes that were made to your document. The Track changes and comments tools can be accessed by clicking on the Review tab. You can either use the tools on the review tab to accept or reject the changes on by one, or you can accept/ reject the changes all at once.
Alternatively, you can right click on each change within the body of the text in the document, to access the accept/ reject features.
As for comments, you can delete them from the review tab, or you can right click on each individual comment to bring up the delete comment function.
I used Apple pages, but prefer to work on an MS Word file instead. How do I convert my file?
